Fast Food Cravings

This week seemed to be a bad week for a lot of my friends trying to live a healthy lifestyle. I heard a lot of people say they missed work-outs, didn’t eat healthy, and gave in to those fast food cravings. Well readers, I have those weeks too! There are weeks where I only go to the gym once and eat fast food more than I should. But the thing that has saved me is making the right choices when I am out. While most of the fast food restaurants don’t cater to those trying to eat healthy, you do have options. So next time you get a craving, I have some suggestions that will keep you on the right track.

McDonald’s – If you crave fast food, this is a good place to go. The quarter pounder without cheese comes in at 410 calories and 19 grams of fat. If you don’t mind just getting the original hamburger, you save on both fat and calories. This burger comes in at 250 calories and only 9 grams of fat. But if you are really hungry, a very filling option and my favorite choice is the premium grilled classic chicken sandwich.It has 420 calories and 10 grams of fat. Want to make it even less? Remove the mayo, or at least minimize the amount.

Burger King – Craving Burger King? Try the Whopper Jr. without mayo and a garden salad. This has about 385 calories and 12 grams of fat. If you need something for breakfast, try the egg and cheese croissan’wich. This comes in at 300 calories and 16 grams of fat. If you don’t mind being a little plain, a croissan’wich with just sausage is just 210 calories and 9 grams of fat!

Taco Bell – Hooray Taco Bell for introducing the new Drive-Thru Diet menu!! This menu provides options that fulfill your taco craving without killing your diet. Some great choices are: the Fresco Soft Taco with 180 calories and 7 grams of fat, the Fresco Grilled Steak Soft Taco with 160 calories and 4.5 grams of fat, and the Fresco Burrito Supreme – chicken with 340 calories and 8 grams of fat.

Papa Murphy’s – I know this isn’t fast food, but who doesn’t crave pizza? My husband tells me he could eat it every day, and I could too. So here is a low-calorie, low-fat option the next time you want some good pizza but don’t want to spend 8 hours at the gym just to burn it off. Papa Murphy’s offers a variety of deLITE pizzas. One slice of the deLITE cheese has only 140 calories and 7 grams of fat. I love this because I can easily have two pieces and a salad for dinner, enjoy some delicious pizza, and not have to feel bad about it! Out of their 23 deLITE options, 20 of them are under 200 calories per slice and all of them are 14 grams of fat a slice or less.

So the next time you feel the need for some fast food, just remember that there are some great ways to get your fix and stay on the healthy track. Trying to eat healthy or cook at home all the time can be really hard, so keep your head up and remember that one meal out isn’t going to ruin all of the progress you are making!
