Entrepreneurism in the Arts: Audition for Forming Improv Comedy Group

Ignite’s Inspire Committee strives to build awareness and foster dialogue about entrepreneurism and diversity in the Rockford Region. The Inspire Committee’s inaugural event — the Poetry Open Mic at Meg’s Daily Grind last week — is a perfect example of how we are working toward those ends. When most think of entrepreneurs, they think of inventors, investors, business owners, etc. But artists — from writers to actors to actual paint and canvas artists — are entrepreneurs as well.

Artists have a product to sell, whether it’s a novel, a painting, a play or a performance, and they need just as much, if not more, support from the local community to be successful in their crafts. Organizations like The Element Rockford and the Rockford Area Arts Council, among others, get this and are working diligently to grow the local arts scene. But you as a local citizen can help, too. How? Attend shows, purchase the works of local artists of all media and/or help spread the word about their work.

Inspired to get involved right now? Help a forming improv comedy group get off to a great start! They’re having auditions from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the SM&SF Club at 1010 Sandy Hollow Road in Rockford. More information can be found on their facebook group Rockford Improv. Even if improv or theatre isn’t for you, support this new arts group in Rockford by spreading the word!
